Favorite character: Willie Loomis, of course
This character's turning point: Willie-me-lad had a number of turning points in his life. And they were HUGE turning points, too. Coming to Collinwood for one, opening Barn's coffin, standing up for Maggie (on more than one occasion), and getting sent to Windcliffe. His character changes so visably after each major event, it's a wonder someone else can't put two and two together and figure out what's going on. Of course, Julia does.....
This character's most interesting relationship: Willie tends to interact with all the other characters in an interesting way, mostly because I think when he's in their line of sight, he irritates them - and I think he irritates them because he represents someone they cannot understand. How could a man like Willie Loomis end up working for that "nice" Barnabas Collins? How come he's so different? What did Barnabas do to him? Willie's mere presence in the room raises questions that no one is willing to answer, let alone examine. He makes them uncomfortable with themselves.
Comments: I love your site. I think the background is very evocative of the Old House and I love the script style that you use for the fonts in the headings. You've got some good alignment here, as well. I think you need MORE pictures of our beloved boy, tho!!!!! [Good answers! But I'm surprised you didn't say that Willie's most interesting realtionship was with Barnabas. Actually, what you said is an accurate assessment of the situation and sums it up quite nicely. IMO. Thanks, too, for the comments on the site. They're all works-in-progress.—M]

Favorite character: Carl Collins-because he's a good joker
This character's turning point: Willie is so funny ever since I first saw him.
This character's most interesting relationship: All the characters that John Karlen has played he's so sweet.
Comments: Hey Willie, what's up baby? Tori here how are you in Collinsport? wish I was with you but you'll allways be in my dreams. I write stories about Willie anytime I get ideas in my head so far I written a story called Willie's Summertime it's about Willie going to California visiting his friend Portense Read it's a great story. [That sounds interesting—Willie in California. Hope he had some fun for a change! —M]

Favorite character: Angelique, I want her powers but I'd use them more wisely!
This character's turning point: in 1897, she mellowed a bit & therefore stopped screwing herself over!
This character's most interesting relationship: Barnabas---I think the answer as to why they have an interesting relationship is obvious!
Comments: your website is very impressive. I'm DELIGHTED to see your guestbook reopened. Your technical know how in putting this site together might just inspire me to dump my primitive web TV system & take a computer class! Love, Adam, hopefully a new friend.............. [Thanks for your kind words! If you decide to get a new computer and want to put up a site, I recommend The Complete Idiot's Guide to Creating an HTML 4 Web Page. Favorite character: Thenardier
This character's turning point: Sure. The night that he was searching the sewers for gold and money after the rush of the barricades. It lead to his "richne$$."
This character's most interesting relationship: I'm not sure what you mean here - Same production or different? I'll do the same. I'd have to say that Javert, believe it or not, has a lot in common with M. Thenardier. They both have aspirations throughout the hardships of the revolution
Comments: I loooove your Javert site! It's neat to find that someone has an interest in the characters in Les Miz. I will be performing in my school's production of Les Miz on March 20-22, 2002. I will no-doubt be playing M. Thenardier, but my second choice is Inspector Javert. In fact, the Denver Post will be doing a month-by-month story of our production. Perhaps I will start a page for Thenardier... Thanks for shareing this site with me. I really enjoyed it. "I have overheard their plan. There will be no attack tonight. They intend to starve us out before they start a proper fight. Concentrate their force, hit us from the right." "Valjean, at last, we see eachother plain. "Miseour le Mayor" you wear a different chain." "This I swear to you, I'll be there." [How exciting for you to be in a production of Les Miz! That's a dream of mine, or a fantasy at any rate. I figure I could play any of the characters since I learned all the lyrics! Best of luck and thanks for signing!—M]

Favorite character: Frollo
This character's turning point: There are so many! I'd have to say when he first sees La Esmeralda dancing in the square with Djali and feels lust for the first time.
This character's most interesting relationship: Quasimodo. Frollo has an excellent servant in him, not unlike a hunter has in their dog. Quasimodo takes so much abuse from him, especially after saving Esmeralda, and doesn't say a word (yeah, i know he's quiet, but still).
Comments: Love your pages, especially the one on Les Miserables! You mentioned that you haven't yet watched the Disney version of the Hunchback of Notre Dame. You're missing out. If you watch it for no other reason but for the artwork, you will not be disappointed. There are a lot of contradictions from the novel, but the story is still touching (The pillory is in the square, Quasimodo is not deaf, Esmeralda is Demi Moore etc...). [Thank you! I've been considering seeing it since I have nephews who might enjoy it. We'll see.... I just tend to be a bit of a purist, is all. : ) —M]

Favorite character: Mr. Spock and Commander Data
This character's turning point: With Spock, the one significant thing that sticks out the most is when he was sprayed with spores on a planet with these big flowers, and he fell in love with a woman there and was happy and smiled. Even though it didn't last, I liked what he said, "All I know is that for once in my life, I was happy." In STNG, I felt that Data had a significant turning point when he was captured by a collector or rare things and people. When Data refused to cooperate with the man who had kidnapped him, because he felt he was not a thing, but a sentient being with the right to liberty. And though it was against his principles, as it were, he would have killed the man to prevent him from doing the same thing to others down the line. But he didn't have to kill him, and was reunited with the crew of the Enterprise where he was treated with dignity and respect.
This character's most interesting relationship: I liked the tension between Nurse Christine and Mr. Spock. She obviously adored him, though he was incapable of returning the affection. And as for Commander Data...I liked the relationship he had with the "daughter" that he made, although sadly, he had to dismantle her.

This character's turning point: when valjean releases him instead of killing him when he has the chance. Everything he believes to be right falls apart.
This character's most interesting relationship: relationship with valjean who he pursues for years. finally he is in valjeans debt. He cannot handle the change of circumstance and so kills himself.
Comments: I love javert because he is so tragic and tortured. He represents the law, rules and authority. He cannot empathise with the poor and has a extremely rigid view of right and wrong. In the end when he realises things aren't always so straghtforward, his world crumbles and he can't live with the knowledge. I feel so sad for Javert as i feel he is essentially a good man but has a lack of understanding of the plight of the poor. [You really hit the nail on the head with your summation of Javert's character. That is how I see him, as well, and that's what drew me to him. He's so tragic, really. Thank you for sharing!—M

This character's most interesting relationship:
Comments: Great website - there really is a site for everything! Totally share your passion for Inspector Javert - ever since I first saw Les Mis 10 years ago, I have been drawn time after time to this fascinating figure. Your previous writer got it right in saying Javert's motives come from an honourable place - he only wants to do what he feels is correct and godly - and his suicide is therefore truly tragic. As far as I'm concerned, his suicide and "Stars" are two of the biggest highlights in modern theatre. I'm an actor in Bath, England, and our theatre company are due to stage the dramatic version of Les Mis ( musical version rights are still unavailable ). I've been lucky enough to be cast as Javert himself! This will be a dream for me to play this role, and I can't wait to portray this fascinating, tormented character at last. Good luck with the website! :o) [Wow, Steve! Congratulations on getting to play Javert. If I was a guy, that would certainly be a dream come true for me, too. Wish I could hop a plane to England to watch. (I went to Bath once and thought it was a beautiful city.) And to get to watch someone who understands and appreciates Javert would be the best. Best of luck! Break a leg, as they say! And thanks for your comments–I totally agree!—M]

Favorite character: My favorite character would be(male) Willie Loomis
This character's turning point: (Willie) He had a tremendous turning point when he realized that jewels were NOT exactly worth working for Barnabas Collins. No vampire is worth wasting time over. I just wish he could have left town, or fully destroyed him.
This character's most interesting relationship: I would have to say Barnabas Collins because he has such a strong hold over Willie and could get him to do whatever was needed to do.
Comments: I love your Willie Loomis page! It really ROCKS! I have never seen such a page like it, especially since sveryone else has different characters that they rather like. [Thanks! I figured there are enough pages about DS in general out there and other characters–that territory has been well covered. Willie deserves his own page, and, as you can see, there's a lot to him!—M]

Other fandoms: My one true Love in fandoms is Dark Shadows. I'm really not involved in any others, and really only have interest in that which pertains to Willie Loomis. :)
Favorite character: Willie Loomis....both pre/post Wyndecliffe.
This character's turning point: I think there were several in Willie's life, but the one that struck me as the most critical point was when he was in the garden at Collinwood going through such turmoil knowing that Barnabas was going to kill Maggie Evans and he just could no longer stand by and watch all the people around him die. What a heroic thing he did in trying to warn Magge!!! I don't think many people realize just what a sacrifice he was making for her. Not only did he perform this attempt at great risk to himself from Barnabas...he finally stood up to the point of death....and that was quite a feat for someone in the power of a vampire's grip. He didn't let it stop him. His love for Maggie and his respect for life--newly acquired since Barnabas bit him compelled him to try against the odds to save her life. I'm sure that he didn't want to go through the shame and the agony of standing by while Barnabas killed her. Wow....how can anyone not love him for that? That, in my opinion was the most powerful and poignant turning point for Willie.
This character's most interesting relationship: I think it is Barnabas, simply because the relationship is fraught with conflict, of desire, fear, cruelty, control and the unnerving edge of what further atrocities he can get away with and how Willie deals with all these facets of the relationship.
Comments: Mary, This is a lovely website with lots of delicious Willie to sink your teeth into...pun intended, of course... I'm still exploring it, but I did want to check in with your guest list. I'm looking forward to seeing more. Good job. : ) [Thanks, Cherie! I agree with your take on Willie's turning point. Probably the most signifcant was getting bitten, but the most poignant was that night in the garden. What it cost him! Yikes! Anyway, thank you for signing!—M]

Favorite character: Used to be Qeuntin, now it is Willie
This character's turning point: Definitely when Willie opened Barnabas' coffin his whole life changed. His character was completely transformed.
This character's most interesting relationship: Probably Barnabas who was Willie's slave master and abuser. Eventually Barnabas did some changing of his own and even developed a sort of friendship with Willie, though it was never as equals, at least not in Barnabas' mind.
Comments: As most people know, I was really heavily into Quentin, but in the past few days have done a complete turnaround and fallen hard for Willie. I look forward to learning more about him and his character and plan to read your stories and others about him as I can. I am also writing my own fanfic called "Seaview" which is the story of Vicki and the dream house she was never able to have. Willie figures very prominently in this story as he is in love with her.

Comments: I would just like to say that if anyone wants a good read about Willie? You've come to the woman that can give it!! I have read both novels that Mary's written..hi Mary!...and the two most powerful ones I have read this year have been "What If...the Night Never Ended..." and I just finished the sequel to that book "If Tomorrow Never Comes". Let me say that I have never been so thoroughly run the gambit of emotions as I did with that one! My hats off to you, Mary, for a masterpiece. Thank you, on behalf of Willie, and for those of us who love his character. I have also just finished with "Summer's Son" a prequel you've written, and I will email you more on that one. But I want to say that I enjoyed the book, and now understand a little better his relationship with Roxanne and how that must have been for her knowing Willie. And for anyone interested in THE best collection of Willie fan fiction stories and some interesting, unique new art...well you can find it for sure in the upcoming Karlenzine IV. I can tell you from personal experience that it will be worth the wait!! Keep up the good work, Mary! We are waiting with bated breath! Bring it on. :) Thanks! Yours in Willie, Cherie Groves [Thanks for the comments and the plugs, Cherie! There WILL be a lot of new stuff to enjoy in KZ IV and KZ V. I'll be sure to post a notice when they're ready. Favorite character: Dr. Julia Hoffman
This character's turning point: Yes, when she saves Barnabas in the "1970-PT" segment and then has to resume her own counterpart's role as a servant to Angelique, undercover if you like, just in order to survive.
This character's most interesting relationship: Barnabas Collins, who, by virtue of his curse, is forever altered in terms of his perspectives on humanity -- especially when one considers the elite of the 18th Century!
Comments: The article which divulged speculations by Lead Writer Sam Hall, in the wake of Dark Shadows disappearance from the air in 1971, dangled the possibility that Barnabas and Julia would finally become true companions and marry. In the final year of the series, as we've been recently reminded by the current (and now ending, sadly) run of Dark Shadows, when Julia has newly reached 1840 and Barnabas tries to reach her via the I-Ching, a vision is seen of a tombstone marked: "Julia Hoffman Collins (d.1840)". The use of both family names was clearly a hint by the scriptwriters. A few episodes later, the reunion between Julia and Barnabas in the foyer of Collinwood is also more than just a bit telling, as are many moments during the 1840 segment. I was only 10 years old when Julia and Barnabas made their debuts on Dark Shadows, but I was impressed by them from the moments they arrived; they were the missing links for a Theatre Piece, in the form of Daytime Drama, which needed only these last crucial elements (personae) in order to reach the archetypal in all of us... that is why (in my opinion) Dark Shadows is timeless, priceless, and can never be replaced. I can only hope that the original series will resurface again somewhere, so that I may always get to see them. Cheers! [You're the first person I've seen give decent evidence to suggest Julia and Barnabas might someday get married. Nice work! And I agree that the show is timeless. It has a character unlike anything else out there, which is why it's still so popular, I'm sure. : ) —M]

Favorite character: Dr. Julia Hoffman
This character's turning point: Yes, when she crossed over into Parallel Time ("1970-PT"), saved Barnabas, killed her own counterpart in doing so, and then had to assume the latter's role as a servant to Angelique, wife of Quentin Collins in Parallel Time, doing so undercover if you like, if for no other reason than to survive.
This character's most interesting relationship: Barnabas Collins, no question, whom she saves or protects more than once, and with whom she argues and fights more than once over the years, initially receiving a lot of abuse and often not the proper appreciation for her efforts until finally, in the last year, their friendship really starts to blossom.
Comments: The lead scriptwriter Sam Hall let it slip in 1971, following the end of the series, that plans had existed so that Barnabas and Julia would finally solidify their friendship into marriage; to wit, that they would finally become for each other what each needed to be: husband and wife. We are given some glimpses of this in the final year of the series, one quite noteworthy in the early days of the 1840 segment with Julia newly arrived and Barnabas attempting the I-Ching as a means to reach her; on the first attempt he instead sees a vision of her tombstone, marked: "Julia Hoffman Collins (d.1840)"--a very telling clue by the scriptwriters. Days later when the two are reunited in the foyer of Collinwood, 1840, the warmth of the reunion is also telling, as are various moments throughout that particular segment. These two characters were the missing links to an already set Theatre (in the form of Daytime Drama) which, with their arrival in 1967 reached the archetypal level that has attracted all of us. The show became both timeless and priceless and, despite an admirable effort 20 years later, could not be replaced. The original series never will be replaced, and I can only hope that it continues running in one form or another so that I may see it all again. (Willie is also a likeable character in my opinion, who I appreciated even more so as Desmond Collins, 1840.) Finally, the costumes, decorations, set designs, and especially the music of Robert Cobert shall never be forgotten. Cheers! [Desmond and Willie were so completely different, it's odd to think the same man portrayed them both. Both Willie and Will were full of tension all the time, but Desmond was so laid back (except during the really bad times). But Willie will always be my favorite!—M]

Read the beginning of the wondrous story, starring TJ himself amoung other lesser mortals. Please, it is a good story, even if it IS just the very beginning.
This character's most interesting relationship: Javert actually has a long lost son. His name is Wraith, and his mum is a prossie. He is in the story too. And also my little brother has a funny game, it is called soul calibur 2, and there is a coolies woman on there called ivy, and she is also in the story. Javert married Ivy at the end and they have a kid, but Javert doesn't like the kid, so they try to sell it on ebay.

Favorite character: WILLIE LOOMIS IS THE GREATEST... "y..y..you're not supposed to be here, Mr. Collins will catch you!" :p
This character's turning point: When Barnabas killed Jason. I believe this was the point where it was made clear to Willie that the past has been destroyed by his master, and there was absolutely no one to help Willie out since Jason was the only one who felt for him.
This character's most interesting relationship: hmm... You know.. John Karlen was an interesting character. He acted hardcore on the outside as Willie going up against Burke, but was so sweet when playing the character of Kendrick. I say that Willie had the most interesting relationship with Barnabas BUT ONLY BECAUSE of their similarities in characters. When Willie would look at Barnabas, it would be as though he would see himself, which made him so afraid. Once enslaved by Barnabas, the inner part of Willie was revealed as he called Victoria Winters on the phone on that dreadful night to tell her where to find Maggie. Barnabas also had a soft side that was later revealed when his sister came up into topic. How interesting it is to actually see the study of characters here, not only in the show, but also in real life. Even when a man says that he hates one of his brothers, he is fooled by his emotions as he really hates himself but loves his brother.
Comments: [Thanks for sharing your views! I don't think the most interesting relationship was between Barnabas and Willie ONLY because of the character's similarites, but to each his/her own! I think those similarities dried right up after Barn bit Willie. Willie couldn't afford to be selfish any more.—M]

This character's turning point: What character? Javert is the best. I have decided his name is Toulouse Javert. Ha ha he rules. He has a son by a repulsive prossie, his name is Wraith. He is a street urchin. Toulouse Javert (TJ) hates him but the prossie unloads Wraith, who is 16, onto him. TJ has a dudey pad. He has two rooms for food.
This character's most interesting relationship: ...He never had a long-term relationship before, he found it hard to find a girl who could, uh, meet his demands. But then he met Sado-masochistic hell bitch Ivy and they got on great. They have a daughter who TJ at first tries to sell on ebay, but when she laughes at poor people on the street he warms to the little kid.
